CSNPhilly caught up with Danny Briere for his reaction to the decision the Flyers made to buyout Bryzgalov.
Bottom line: Was he liked?
“It was split,” Briere said. “Some guys liked him. Some guys did not like him, but that wasn’t really the issue … I think the Flyers felt it was better for the team moving forward.”
Asked to sum up Bryzgalov in a single word, Briere replied, “Interesting.”
The 32 year old Russian goaltender was 19-17-3 with a 2.79 GAA and a .900 save percentage. He has seven years left on his contract signed in June 2011 with a cap hit of $5.67 million.
Briere mentioned that Bryzgalov was different but most goaltenders are different. In HBO's 2010 special on the Broad Street Bullies, teammates said that Flyers Hall of Fame goaltender Bernie Parent had a leather obsession, which isn't exactly normal. Goaltenders are a different breed and Bryzgalov was the type of person that made weird people say, "Whoa, that guy is weird."
