Tartabull signed with the Phillies in 1997 for $2 million but appeared in only three games going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts before retiring. Not a bad way to make $2 million if you can make it happen.
Maybe he should have saved some of the money. According to the Los Angeles Child Support Services, Tartabull owes over $276,000 in child support payments. The former All-Star was put on probation in 2011, violated it in 2012 and was ordered to served 180 days in jail but never appeared to serve his sentence. They have filed a warrant for his arrest with bail set at $200,000.
Tartabull, 50, played in the majors for 14 years hitting .273/.368/.496 with 262 home runs and 925 RBI. He reportedly made $32.995 million in his career so it's not like he has never seen $276,000 in his life.
