Tonight’s matchup with the Panthers is the second of three games against the Panthers this year. The Flyers slammed Florida 7-1 for their second win of the season on January 26th, which featured a hat trick from Matt Read and rookie Tye McGinn’s first NHL goal. Between the Pipes: Ilya Bryzgalov (4-5-0, 2.24 GAA, .923 SV%). Bryzgalov got the win for the Flyers the last time they played the Panthers when he stopped 30 of the Panthers’ 31 shots en route to his second victory of the year. In his seven career games against the Panthers, Bryzgalov is 5-1-1 with one shutout, a 1.40 GAA and a .948 SV%.
The Panthers are coming off of a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night that snapped their two game winning streak. Over their last three games they have walked away with five points. The Panthers are just 1-3-1 on the road this year. Getting off to a good start will be key to beating the Panthers, dating back to last season Florida is 25-1-8 when leading after two periods of play. Florida will be without speedy forward, and former Flyer,Scottie Upshall tonight as he is out with a lower body injury. In addition to Upshall, the Panthers are missing their captain Ed Jovanowski to a lower body injury as well. Both were place on injured reserve last Friday.
Between the Pipes: Jose Theodore (3-4-0, 3.33 GAA, .896). Theodore was the winning goaltender in his last start on Sunday as Florida skated to a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres. He made 17 saves on 20 shots to earn his third victory of the season. In 27 career games against the Flyers, Theodore is 14-11-1 with a 2.94 GAA and a .907 SV%.
