For the Flyers up-and-down goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov gets the start. Bryzgalov played well for the Flyers in the home opener for the Devils this year when he posted a 3-0 shutout to end the Flyers shutout streak which went all the way back to the 2010 playoffs. Bryzgalov (17-10-3, 3.00 GAA, .893 save %) play extremely well in Tuesday’s 5-1 win over the Wild. He had 25 saves on 26 shots. In addition to Bryzgalov, the Flyers need their top line of Claude Giroux-Jaromir Jagr-Scott Hartnell to get clicking. Giroux and Jagr both spoke yesterday after practice about their recent struggles and Giroux’s meeting with head coach Peter Laviolette. Videos of their interviews can be seen here. Flyers will start Bryzgalov in net, Kimmo Timonen and Braydon Coburn on defense, and Giroux-Jagr-Hartnell as the forwards.
As for the Devils, they are also coming off of a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins. The Devils a 6-3-1 over their last 10 games. Last night, they pulled off a trade in which they sent minor league defenseman Joe Sova and a 4th round draft pick to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Alexei Ponikarovsky. Ponikarovsky caught a red eye flight to Newark last night and will play today against the Flyers. He had 7 goals and 8 assists in 49 games with the Hurricanes. Martin Brodeur is expected to start for the Devils today. He is 14-11-1 with a 2.83 GAA and .895 save percentage but he is 12-2-3 with a 3.13 GAA in his last 17 starts against the Flyers.
