Sergei Bobrovsky was the first goaltender off the ice this morning for the Flyers so it appears that he will be the starter between the pipes for the orange and black. Bobrovsky is 3-1-0 with a 2.26 goals-against-average over his last four starts and is 8-3-1 with a 2.56 GAA and a .914 save percentage overall in 15 starts this season. The highest paid Flyers, goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, has been struggling recently. He is 2-4-1 with a 4.41 GAA in his last seven starts and is only 16-9-3 with a 3.07 GAA and a .891 save percentage overall in 29 starts this year. After signing a 9 year, $51 million deal in the offseason, the Flyers thought Bryzgalov was the answer to their goaltender issues. Despite the “goalie controversy,” Flyers insider Randy Miller thinks that Bryzgalov will be fine.
The Hurricanes enter with just 35 points, are 4-4-2 over their last ten games, and have lost three of their last four. Despite the rough record recently, the Hurricanes are 4-0-1 in their last five games at the RBC Center. Cam Ward gets the nod between the pipes. Ward has struggled this year posting a 3.19 GAA and .898 save percentage while going 14-15-6 in 36 starts. Ward has also struggled historically against the Flyers. In his last eight starts against the Flyers, Ward is 2-5-1 with a 3.10 GAA. The Flyers enter the game second in the NHL is goals per game.
Puck drops at the RBC Center in Raleigh, NC at 7:00 pm. The game be seen on The Comcast Network and heard on the radio on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com.
