Tonight’s matchup bodes well for the Flyers. They are 28-9-6 in evening games this year but a mere 5-10-1 in afternoon games. The local start time is 7:30 pm. Former Flyer Chris Pronger is missing out of playing against his former team. Pronger spent the 2005-06 season with the Oilers netting 12 goals and 44 assists for 56 points before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks. Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist with 10 shots on net in Tuesday night’s win. He is tied with Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos for second in the NHL in points with 70. Stamkos and Giroux trail Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin who has 73 points on the year.
The Oilers have two guys that could really cause havoc tonight. Jordan Eberle leads the Oilers with 26 goals, 32 assists for 52 points. He is the offensive weapon for the Oilers. On the back end, Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid is second in the NHL is blocked shots with 142, leads the team with 131 hits and you will see a lot of him as he averages 21 minutes of ice time. Before last year’s 4-1 loss to the Flyers in Philadelphia, the Oilers had not lost to the Flyers since 2000-01. They went 6-0-1 over that span.
Puck drops tonight at 9:30 pm at Rexall Place. The game can be seen tonight on Comcast Sportsnet and heard on 94.1 WIP.
