The Sixers are coming off a 112-85 rout of the Sacramento Kings last night and are 4-0 at home. They head on the road where they are only 3-2 to take on the Knicks who, after a rough start, have rebounded to win their last three games.
Last night, the Sixers were lead by 21 points and 10 rebounds from Elton Brand. They had six players in double figures, including 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists from Evan Turner. The Sixers have balance across their lineup and have bought into Doug Collins’ defensive philosophy. The Sixers are first in the NBA in points allowed per game at 85.6 points and are third in points per game averaging 101.6 points. The Sixers have won five games by 20 or more points and their two losses have been by a combined 7 points.
The Knicks are lead by their big three: Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Tyson Chandler. Anthony is averaging 26.6 points per game which is good for third in the NBA behind LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Stoudemire is averaging 21.0 points per game. The Knicks, as a team, rank 10th in the league in scoring averaging 96.4 points per game. Anthony and Stoudemire account for 49.4% of the Knicks scoring so it is no secret that Andre Iguodala, who will probably cover Anthony, and Elton Brand, who is presumably cover Stoudemire, will have their hands full on defense tonight.
Tonight’s game is shaping up to be a good one. Tipoff is at 7:30 at Madison Square Garden. The game can be seen on Comcast Sportsnet and heard on the radio on 94.1 WIP.
