Baseball-Reference, a personal favorite of mine, tweeted out a "fun comparison" in which they compared the first 33 MLB games of Mike Schmidt, Scott Rolen, and Cody Asche's career. Asche leads the other two in home runs, RBIs, fewest strikeouts, batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS.
Asche, 23, has played well when called upon. Rolen was 22 years old when he won the 1997 Rookie of the Year award. Schmidt made his debut in September 1972, two weeks shy of his 23rd birthday. So, given their ages at the times of their debuts, Asche falls right in line with where they were.
It would be unfair to expect Asche to have a Schmidt-like, or even Rolen-like, career but it goes to show you that the former-Nebraska Cornhusker can hold his own at the Major League level.
