The Flyers were in the middle of gaining momentum at the end of the 2011-12 season as the playoffs loomed. In the 79th game of the season the Flyers battled back from a 2-0 deficit against the Penguins to take a 5-2 lead. They would eventually make is 6-3 with 1:15 remaining in the game.
Penguins coach Dan Bylsma put his checking line on the ice against the Flyers second line when Joe Vitale landed a hard, clean hit on Danny Briere with no intention of going for the puck. A melee ensued on the ice as the Flyers took exception the Penguins' head-hunting ways.
Laviolette climbed up onto the boards going after Bylsma in a clear fit of rage only to be pulled back by Craig Berube and stopped by Pittsburgh assistant Tony Granato.
The Flyers would go on to win 6-4 and then face-off against the Penguins in an Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series for the ages in which the Flyers won in six games.
I think hockey fans would love to see another Philadelphia go-around with Pittsburgh.
