The Whiz Wit crew was watching this game on Thursday night when the hit happened, and the three of us simultaneously gave it a heaping "OHHH!" Bostic nailed San Diego WR Mike Willie after Willie caught a short screen pass. Willie never saw Bostic coming. Bostic's hit made Willie lose the ball, and there was no flag on the play.
That last sentence is key. The officials got this play right. Bostic's hit was CLEAN. He kept his head up, put his face is Willie's chest, and wrapped him up. The hit was textbook. It seems the NFL is fining him because it was a big hit. This hit was a product of two players moving full speed in opposite directions, right at each other, and the wide receiver not seeing the linebacker. The NFL fining a linebacker for a textbook tackle on a wide receiver going across the middle of the field is an absolute joke. Especially on this hit. The only part of this hit that was malicious was the speed at which the tackle was made.
This hit being "illegal" as well as the talk aboutJadaveon Clowney's hit being an illegal hit will surely make football fans everywhere angry. I know the NFL and NCAA are concerned with safety of the players, but these hits are picture perfect tackles.
