CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury reports Phillies pitcher Jonathan Pettibone will have exploratory surgery on his injured right shoulder. Pettibone has not pitched for the Phillies since getting optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on April 18th following a poor start in Colorado.
Pettibone allowed one earned run in five innings of work in his season debut on April 12th against the Marlins but came back on April 18th against the Rockies and got rocked. Pettibone allowed eight runs on nine hits in four innings of work while throwing 93 pitches.
The 23-year-old last pitched on May 12th for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs allowing two runs on five hits in five innings of work. This shoulder injury isn't something new as he received a cortisone shot in his shoulder back in February.
