Following the 2011 season, Kelly was heavily pursued by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their vacant head coaching position. Not only was he pursued but it was reported by a number of outlets including the Tampa Bay Times and ESPN that Kelly was in contract negotiations with Tampa.
Well we all know how it turned out. Kelly spurned the Bucs to return to Oregon only to entertain offers from the Browns and Eagles one year later. Kelly decided against making the jump to the NFL before re-opening discussions with the Eagles and the rest is history...
Something tells me that Sunday will not be a warm welcome for Kelly. The Buccaneers opted to hire Greg Schiano in the wake of Kelly's decision to stay at Oregon and Schiano isn't exactly well-liked around the league. His aggressive play when opponents are in victory formation rubbed coaches the wrong way. He had a rather public breakup with former first-round pick, quarterback Josh Freeman. And, on top of all of that, the team is still looking for their first win.
This doesn't at up to a jovial environment for the Buccaneers, let alone for the guy who spurned them only to return a year later with a different team.
At least the weather is supposed to be nice in Tampa on Sunday?
