The league has suspended the new Maple Leafs forward for his role in Sunday night's melee between the Buffalo Sabres and the Leafs. Clarkson left the bench to confront enforcer John Scott.
Clarkson, 29, signed a seven-year, $36.75 million deal with the Maple Leafs in July that carries a $5.25 million cap hit. Toronto will not get any relief during the suspension as Clarkson's contract counts against the salary cap. He played the last seven seasons with New jersey registering 15 goals and nine assists last season. In 2011-12, he had a career year scoring 30 goals and adding 16 assists for 46 points in 80 games.
