The tough part of this blog going up on Friday is that now 2 weeks in a row we have missed out on MACtion. Tuesday & Wednesday night football can put you in a great position, or bury you if you aren't careful. These games can be fast paced, big scoring affairs. Or they can turn into missed field goals and red zone turn overs. Dan LeFevour and the Central Michigan Chippewas playing on Wednesday nights were my gateway to the gambling world.
Mid week games give the conference a chance to showcase their schools in prime time. Northern Illinois a few years ago won back to back games including a huge overtime game over Kent State that pushed them right into the BCS (remember that shit) rankings. It has been great for the brand, and ESPN will be bringing you a mid week fix until at least 2026. It is important to the conference these games are fun to watch. Touchdowns and big plays keep people tuned in.
When betting on MAC games you have to be on the look out for a few things. BGSU is my MAC team, they are charging towards a conference championship and will be doing more and more to win games. Which also means they might not be blowing teams out in November the way they do in September. The mid week matchups often have huge implications in the conference title race and games can be conservative especially in the 2nd half. On the other end you get teams like Ball State who don't have much to play for so they will go for it on 4th and 6 in the 2nd quarter. One other important thing to watch out for is that mid west weather. Rain, wind, snow...the games can get sloppy in a hurry. Betting on MACtion is the auto-erotic asphyxiation of gambling. Sure it can be fun and satisfying, but your family will think less of you if they find out, and there's always a chance you'll be found hanging in a closet after a bad session.
Navy - 10 1H & Team Total OVER 41 - SMU has a bottom 5 defense that surrenders over 200 yards per game on the ground. This Navy triple option should give them fits all day long. Couple that with Navy QB Keenan Reynolds going for an NCAA TD record at home, and you have all the makings of a runaway. I was considering the over for the game but Navy should be able to hold the Mustangs from scoring 20
Miami/North Carolina OVER 65 - this total seems low, almost scary low. The Tar Heels offense has been clicking for the last several weeks. They have big receivers that can move in space and a great vertical threat out of the slot. Brad Kaaya returns for Miami which makes me think they should have no trouble putting up 28. With North Carolina able to put up 40+ every week, you should look at a team total here too.
Arkansas State/ULM OVER 57.5 - Ark State has been a darling lately. They have been playing a lot of over games, surrendering points while scoring 35+. ULM can't stop the run (or pass really) and Gordon is a guy who can run for 200 yards on them. The Red Wolves seem to have an allergy to playing defense as well. ULM gives up a ton of points, even at home. It's not rocket science here...9 touchdowns should be doable by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Tulsa +17.5 @ Cincinnati - call me crazy but I don't think the Bearcats should be laying 17.5 to anyone. Tulsa can score with Cinci, they have hung around with better teams on the road. It should be noted that the Tulsa defense is really bad. Their secondary is soft, and if Gunner Kiel's eggs aren't scrambled he could put up big numbers. I do like the over too but played the side just in case Cinci comes out trying to do too much on Senior Day. If you have some wiggle room a reverse with Tulsa and Over is a good option.
Green Bay -6 1H vs Detroit - The team total came late last week with them but we will take it anyway. Green Bay at home is a different animal. Things seem to go their way more often in Lambeau. The Lions are as bad as they look and GB needs to right the ship after dropping 2 straight. We all saw Rodgers miss an open receiver on the last drive of Sunday's game. After he threw his Microsoft Surface (available at Best Buy) I made up my mind that I was taking the Packers this week.
DATELINE PHUKET THAILAND: Uncle Radar can't pick a winner right now if he got tomorrow's newspaper. My experience and savvy has taught me to be egoless and follow the hot hand, which I've been doing. My nephews hot streak cooled a bit, but was a respectable 3-5 considering the last 3 weeks( plus a first half reverse in Wednesday nights Maction). A doctor had advised me to slow down a bit, and I did, to the point of finally getting my satellite phone to work. I wanted to surprise Touchy with a phone call from Phuket after reading that he would be home alone for 8 hours or so, with Mrs. Touchy's and Two Hands enjoying the day together.
I finally got through to him at half time of the Texas Tech / West Virginia 3 way. It was not looking good, but what had me worried was Touchy's tone when he picked up, plans had changed and Two Hands was home with him. He was rattled and in the background I could hear Two Hands wailing away. Now Two Hands is usually very well behaved and there's not a peep from him during college football Saturday. However Saturday he seemed to sense his father's vulnerability and was taking advantage. My personal opinion is he saw Touchy's 2 Top 25 3 Ways and wanted to show his disapproval. He was not happy. He seemed to get his little baby hands, ball them up in a little baby fist, and shove them directly up his Daddy's ass. But you can't stay mad at Two Hands for long as he spoke his first word! The usual argument between Mom and Dad was put to rest as to which word he said first "Mommy or "Daddy, Two Hands looked up and said the word he'd been hearing most often. It was clear as a bell, He said OVER!!!!! With that let's go with the OVER in the Pats Giants game. St. Tommy wants revenge for the 2 Super Bowl losses and will run up the score. As of this blog it's 54 and that only makes me like it more.
