The Associated Press' Ronald Blum reports Major League Baseball has informed all 30 teams that they will be required to increase security by adding "hand-held metal detectors or walk-through magnetometers" to their entrances by 2015. The Seattle Mariners are going to implement these new safety measures for the 2014 season. The League cites working with Homeland Security to ensure the safety of fans.
I'm not opposed to this but I hope everyone is sufficiently trained so the lines don't back up to Oregon Avenue. The Flyers use hand-held metal detectors but a simple wave three feet in front of you as your walking into the AT&T Pavilion, or whatever it's called now, is all they do and there is no delay.
I don't know if that is what the Phillies plan on doing or not but fans should be prepared to get to the ballpark a bit earlier, especially at the beginning of the season, when this goes into effect.
