Watching the game yesterday it was hard to listen to the commentators praising what the Giants were doing. Lets recap, they won on 5 field goals. Zero touchdowns. The Eagles played excellent bend don't break defense and held the Giants on third down when they were deep in Eagles territory each and every time. The Eagles offense on the other hand? Still vacationing in Tampa.
Offense - Fail
Defense - Pass
That's as simple as a breakdown for grades as it comes, but sometimes the collective effort is so pathetic that the entire group deserves blame. Simple things such as not running one of the best running backs in the game with a first and goal from the 2 yard line, which ended up with a lost fumble by Barkley. Apparently the only quarterback who can consistently run a Chip Kelly offense is still in college. It's also pathetic when Peyton Hillis, one of, if not the worst player to suffer a Madden cover curse, has more rushing yards than the league's leading rusher. This fast paced, high powered offense has gone flat. Somewhere between Tampa and Philadelphia, maybe on the flight, something happened and the same team has not showed up since then. Something needs to change on the offensive side of the ball before the Eagles travel to Oakland to play the Raiders next week.
The defense once again, has unexpectedly has been the high point the past few weeks. Billy Davis and the defense are trending up while the offense is trending down, way down. Despite only sacking Manning once last week, the Eagles defense did play well. There were far less moments where it was third down and I thought to myself "The Giants will definitely pick up the first here" which is good, and certainly an improvement from past weeks. Hopefully Chip can right the ship this week in practice and work more with Matt Barkley who looks like he is going to be the starter until Vick or Foles can get healthy.
