Well Major League Baseball is taking a major step forward. In a press release from MLB last night, they announced a deal with T-Mobile to install cellphones into dugouts for teams to communicate with the bullpen.
According to the release,
“’T-Mobile has made a significant commitment to Major League Baseball across our game and business and its innovative drive and expertise in wireless technology will be an outstanding addition to the baseball industry,’ said Tim Brosnan, MLB executive vice president, business. ‘T-Mobile has been an impact player in the wireless industry and we look forward to their innovative spirit positively influencing the game and the way fans enjoy it.’”
This will be interesting because there have been many occasions at a number of MLB parks where I have lost service. It appears that T-Mobile will do it’s best to eliminate this issue. But, just in case, will they keep the landline? Hardball Talk got a sketch of what to expect from the dugouts and bullpens.
