The Eagles are selecting in the top 5 for the first time since 1999 when they selected Donovan McNabb second overall. O’Brien has the Eagles selecting Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel,
“This would be a great scenario for the Eagles. If Jason Peters, Jason Kelce and Todd Herremans can all return from injury in 2013, adding Joeckel could give Philadelphia one of the NFL's best lines.”
Joeckel, 21, declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season on January 8th. He stands at 6’6” and 310 lbs. with great form and fantastic durability as he has started every game for the Aggies since his freshman year. The problem is that the Kansas City Chiefs, and new coach Andy Reid, hold the first overall selection and are widely considered to be heavily interested in Joeckel so many think that he won’t fall to the Eagles.
One of those people who don’t think that Joeckel will be on the board when the Eagles pick fourth is Kiper. Kiper has the Chiefs drafting Joeckel first overall but the Eagles addressing another need by selecting Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner. Kiper is high on Milliner,
“The best corner for Philly this season was rookie Brandon Boykin. The top cornerback in the draft is always going to be a huge draw, and Milliner could come out of the draft process worthy of going this high. He will improve as a technical corner, but has elite grades in terms of awareness, and particularly as a physical corner who can push wideouts off routes. He can defend the run and tackle at a very high level.”
