That is all well and good but, when it comes down to it, Tebow wins games. There is no denying it. The Broncos are 7-1 with Tebow as a starter. They were 1-4 before he took over. What else can you say about that? The numbers speak for themselves. But there is something more than just the numbers. There is something about the way Tebow is winning that is so astonishing. Credit to the Denver defense for keeping the Broncos in the games but this is outrageous. It seems like, no matter what, the Broncos are coming to behind to tie and/or win the game late in regulation. Tebow and the Broncos have won three games in overtime since he took over as starter (10/23- MIA, 11/27- SD, 12/11- CHI) , two more games taking the lead with less than two minutes to go (11/17- NYJ, 12/4- MIN) and another game in which they took the lead in the fourth quarter (11/13- KC). It seems like Tebow is just toying with us.
Week in and week out he continues to dazzle in the fourth quarter. Against the Bears yesterday, he was 3/16 for 45 yards and an interception. In the fourth quarter, Tebow was 18/24 for 191 yards and a touchdown. The Broncos were trailing 10-0 with 2:08 remaining in the game. Tebow threw a touchdown before the two-minute warning to bring in to 10-7. After Chicago couldn’t run out the clock, Tebow drove the Broncos into “field goal range” with just 47 seconds remaining and no timeouts. I put field goal range in quotations because that is a stretch. With almost no time left, Broncos kicker Matt Prater hit a 59 yard field goal (59 yards is barely field goal range) to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime, after a Bears turnover, Tebow got the Broncos just close enough so that Matt prater could hit a 51 yard game winning field goal.
What Tim Tebow is doing is magical. Whether you love him or hate him, what he is doing is astonishing. I am not a Broncos fan, I really never have been. I like Brian Dawkins so I root for the Broncos. I have always liked Tim Tebow because I have respected him for being grounded. But it is difficult not to root for Tebow because, in my opinion, he is a likeable guy. Whther you love him or hate him, it is fun to watch. Tune in next Sunday at 4:15 to watch Tebow and the Broncos play Brady and the Patriots. You probably won’t have to tune in to the game until about 6:45-7ish when the fourth quarter begins.
