The new Phillies color commentator was on display Monday alongside the other new color commentator, Jamie Moyer. They were hired earlier this month to replace Chris Wheeler and Gary "Sarge" Matthews. The two discussed, among other things, who would be the color commentator in what cities when Stairs said, "I do Cincy because [Jonathan] Broxton is there."
If you remember, Stairs hit his famous moonshot in the 2008 NLCS off Broxton, who was still playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The momentum led the Phillies to the game victory, series victory and ultimately a World Series title.
His moonshot still gives me chills and Matt Stairs, as he put it, never had to pay for beer again in Philadelphia. And rightly so. Well, the legend of Matt Stairs grew three sizes last month as the former-Phillies slugger appeared at the Wing Bowl and his entrance was of epic proportions. He came out to Stone Cold Steve Austin's entrance music and then crushed two beers while wearing his Phillies jersey.
Stairs played parts of two season with the Phillies in 2008 and 2009.
