LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr.
The 21-year-old has elite speed. He ran a 4.43 at the NFL combine but in transitions well to the field as he is a legitimate threat simply because of his speed. At just 5'11", he isn't the tallest wide receiver but can beat man coverage over the top and can put up tremendous YAC (yards after catch). Along with his speed, Beckham uses his agility to his advantage to change directions in the open field.
Beckham has big 10-inch hands which helps him reel in balls but he is not as consistent as you'd like to see from a wide receiver. He has dropped some passes and has shown some ball security issues in the past. Beckham can get off the press on the line of scrimmage but some more elite cornerbacks have shown the ability to real jam him at the line of scrimmage.
Despite is lack of intimidating size, Beckham is adequate as a run blocker. He makes an effort in the run game and will get down field to try and contribute as a blocker.
Fit With the Eagles:
There has been talk that the Eagles are doing their "due diligence" to move up in the draft. The player they are reportedly interested in is Beckham. He would be almost the perfect replacement for Jackson as Beckham, despite his size, can beat defenses over the top, he can beat them with his speed or he can beat them in the return game.
Sounds a lot like Jackson.
Beckham was one of the players the Eagles brought in for a visit. Chip Kelly personally went to his Pro Day at LSU while he played against Kelly while he was still at Oregon and was recruited by Kelly coming out of high school. The Eagles have shown in the past to put some stock in top high school players when it comes to the draft (i.e. taking a seventh round flier on Bryce Brown) and Beckham was a top high school recruit.
With teams like the Detroit Lions, New York Giants, New York Jets and St. Louis Rams all selecting before the Eagles at 22, it is almost a certainty Beckham will not be available when the Eagles pick. If Howie Roseman & Co. have their heart set on Beckham, they are going to have to move up to nab him.
