This clause would be great for the Flyers who are held down by a couple large contracts. The biggest contract that has shown to be a bust is the nine year, $51 million signed by goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. Bryzgalov has underwhelmed in his time in Philadelphia. Last year he was 33-16-7 with a 2.48 GAA and a .909 save percentage in the regular season and 5-6 with a 3.46 GAA and a .887 save percentage. I’m sure Flyers fans would love to rid themselves of this contract.
Speaking of Bryzgalov…
Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Bryzgalov is having some of the same issues in Russia that he had last year in Philadelphia. Bryzgalov’s play has been bad. He is 2-4 with a 2.92 GAA and a .892 save percentage in 308 minutes on the ice. Now Bryzgalov is lashing out at the media. Carchidi writes,
“Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is 2-4 with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage in Russia. After his last game, he got testy with the media. Asked about the win, Bryzgalov, according to Sportbox.ru, replied, ‘What do you want me to say? You've been writing filth about me and now you are asking for an interview?’ Bryzgalov was quoted as saying his wife and parents forbade him from doing interviews.”
Great. Not only is he mad already and he hasn’t been in Philadelphia in months, he is also playing terrible. Not a good sign but an amnesty clause in the new CBA would be ideal to handle a situation like this.
