Ristolainen is surprisingly mobile for a player his size and has a physicality to his game. He is not overly physical or hard hitting but knows how to use his body to his advantage and does has somewhat of a mean streak that fits in well with the Flyers mantra.
Despite only being 18 years old with a late 1994 birthday, he already has two seasons playing in Finland's top league, SM-liiga. Ristolainen appears calm yet confident with the puck and has maturity beyond his years which makes many believe that he can help an NHL blue line sooner rather than later.
Fit with Flyers:(Photo: GCobb)
There are a number of ways the Flyers could choose to go with the 11th overall pick but most signs point to them selecting a puck-moving defenseman. Ristolainen is practically the perfect fit for the Flyers. He has a nasty streak, size to hold his own in physical battles, and can move the puck.
He could be paired with a more defensive minded defenseman such as Nicklas Grossmann or Luke Schenn in the Flyers. Ristolainen projects as a top-four defenseman for years to come. Will he be available for the Flyers at 11th overall? If so, is that the direction the Flyers take? We will find out on June 30th.
