The original contact appeared clean as Belov connected shoulder-to-shoulder with the Flyers captain. The referees saw the follow-through in which Belov's shoulder hits Giroux's head and gave the 27-year-old a match penalty which put the Flyers on the power play for five minutes.
It did not appear to be the right call on the ice but all match penalties must be reviewed by the league office for possible suspensions.
The Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson reports that the league has reviewed Belov's hit and rescinded the match penalty citing that original contact was to Giroux's shoulder.
You be the judge.
