Just one day after the league suspended new Leaf David Clarkson 10 games for leaving the bench during Sunday's mayhem against the Buffalo Sabres, the league handed down another harsh penalty. Star Phil Kessel has been suspended three games (the remainder of the preseason) for numerous two-handed slashes to Buffalo's John Scott.
It began when the Sabres' enforcer went after Kessel off the face-off and Kessel delivered a the first two-handed slash. Kessel then later issued another few slashes (see main article picture).
Kessel, 25, scored 20 goals and added 32 assists for 52 points in 48 games last season. In 82 games in 2011-12, Kessel scored 37 goals and dished out 45 assists for 82 points. He had not missed a game in the last three seasons and that streak will be alright as he will be in the lineup for the season-opener on October 1st and against the Flyers on October 2nd.
