No Flyers were on the list this year as center Claude Giroux finished eighth among all centers and right wing Jake Voracek finished eighth among all right wingers in voting.
It is mind-boggling that Voracek finished as low as eighth among voting. I don't think he should've been honored over Ovechkin (Hart Trophy winner for league MVP) or second-team right wing Martin St. Louis (Art Ross Trophy winner for most points) but eighth? Really?
Voracek, who turns 24 in August, was second on the Flyers in points last season with 46 in 48 games while posting a career high 22 goals. His 22 goals were second to Chicago RW Patrick Kane's 23 among all right wings. He finished eighth in assists (24) among right wings and came in at fourth in total points. His shooting percentage of 17.1% was third among all right wings who played 18 games or more.
Let's not get carried away - Jake Voracek was not a snub. But, at the same time, the fact that Voracek finished eighth is ignorant on the part of the voters. I guess that isn't too surprising considering 45 voters didn't even know Alex Ovechkin switched positions.
