First baseman Ryan Howard underwent a MRI today on his ailing left knee and the results came back less-than-stellar. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced that the former All-Star has a torn meniscus and will be out for 6-8 weeks following surgery.
In 80 games this season, Howard is hitting .266/.319/.465 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI. He wasn't healthy last year playing in only 71 games after rupturing his Achilles tendon in October 2011. We though was healthy for part of this year but then he revealed that he was playing in pain for much of the season.
It looks like the Phillies will get a good look at Darin Ruf at first base over the next two months. Another tough break for the former NL MVP.
