What we do know is what Todd Zolecki tells us. Howard saw the doctor yesterday for his surgically repaired meniscus. The Phillies $25 million first baseman is expected to resume baseball activities on Thursday. What happens after that is anybody's guess.
In 80 games this season, Howard was hitting .266/.319/.465 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI. He wasn't healthy last year playing in only 71 games after rupturing his Achilles tendon in October 2011. We thought he was healthy for part of this year but then he revealed that he was playing in pain for much of the season. Howard has supposedly lost 15-20 pounds since the surgery.
At this point, it is probably best to shut him down and get him healthy for next year while seeing what some of these other kids can do in the lineup.
