Awful Announcing released their Local Television Announcer Rankings and the Phillies did not do so hot. Tom McCarthy, Matt Stairs and Jamie Moyer came in 26th out of 30 Major League teams and they came in fourth out of the five National League East teams beating out only the Nationals who came in 27th.
I think people should cut Matt Stairs and Jamie Moyer a break for the next month and a half. They have never been color analysts before and they are not trained to do this. Let them figure out what works and what doesn't before we criticize them for it. If they are making the same mistakes in August then rip them.
As for McCarthy, well, he's tough to listen to on a nightly basis. I've met him and he's a very nice person so this isn't a personal slam but he is just brutal on the broadcasts. He's constantly talking instead of giving the viewer an ounce of dead air. It's really bad.
I, like pretty much every other Phillies fan, love Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen on the radio. They are highly entertaining and if I could figure out some way to sync the TV and radio broadcasts, I'd be watching the Phillies on mute.
As for the rankings, the San Francisco Giants took the top spot followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets and rounding out the top five were the Chicago Cubs.
