That was until today. Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo is one of a number of players who will be accepting a 50 game suspension for performance-enhancing drug use related to Tony Bosch's Biogenesis clinic.
Bastardo, 27, is 3-2 with a 2.32 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP with two saves in 48 games this season. He was incredibly successful for the Phillies in 2011 when he went 6-1 with a 2.64 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP with eight saves in 64 games.
As Jerry Gaul pointed out, the Phillies bullpen is not a place you would expect to find performance enhancing drugs - especially this year. The good (?) news is that the Phillies are not in the playoff race so this doesn't hurt them.
