The Philadelphia Inquirer's Bob Brookover reports Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz has received an exemption that allows him to take Adderall, a substance used to control attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Ruiz was suspended 25 games at the beginning of 2013 for testing positive twice for Adderall in 2012.
Ruiz, who turned 35 in January, took Adderall in 2012 and it clearly worked. He batted .325/.394/.540 with a career-high 16 home runs and a career-high 68 RBIs in 114 games in 2012. His numbers were down significantly in 2013 as he batted .268/.320/.368 with five home runs and 37 RBIs.
