The Phillies announced that Lee has been scratched from today's scheduled start against the Detroit Tigers due to neck stiffness. He will be replaced by left-hander Raul Valdes.
Multiple reports from the clubhouse state that the injury is legitimate and not a precautionary move in case of a trade. Lee, 34, is 10-4 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP with 131 strikeouts in 144.2 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just .230 off of him this year.
Lee is owed $50 million the next two seasons that includes a $27.5 million vesting option for 2016 as well. He has drawn significant trade interest from teams such as the Dodgers and Red Sox.
Valdes, 35, is 3-4 with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 12 starts in Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year. He has only allowed three home runs in 66.2 innings of work.
