CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman is reporting that the Phillies are one of the teams interested in free agent shortstop/second baseman Ryan Theriot (pronounced “terr – ee – oh”). Heyman notes that Theriot has been a member of each of the last two World Series Championship teams.
Theriot, 33, hit .270 with no homeruns and 28 RBI in 104 games with the Giants last year, primarily off the bench. He spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Cubs with his best year coming in 2009 when he hit seven homeruns and drove in 54 RBI while hitting .281. Theriot would be a nice addition to the Phillies bench, if for no other reason that they can start selling “The Riot” t-shirts.
