Before their embarrassing 11-3 loss to the Cardinals on Wednesday night, the Phillies were dealt a major blow as left fielder Domonic Brown sat out due to concussion-like symptoms. He will also sit out Thursday's series finale against St. Louis.
Brown, 25, underwent a battery of tests Wednesday and will learn the results on Thursday. There is a real possibility that he could be placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list.
The All-Star injured himself diving for a ball in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Cardinals. It comes at a bad time as the Phillies are in desperate need of wins leading up to next Wednesday's non-waiver trade deadline.
Brown is hitting .271/.316/.531 with a team leading 24 home runs and 69 RBIs in 99 games with the Phillies this season. He has played well in left field and earned his first All-Star game nod. This is a crippling loss for a team that needed everything to go right in the second half.
