Bloomberg News ranked the Major League Baseball teams in terms of value and, to no one's surprise, the New York Yankees topped the list with a total worth of $3.28 billion. The Phillies total value came in at $1.04 billion which was ninth in the MLB and fifth in the National League.
The breakdown was interesting as it accounted for team value, regional sports networks, related business, and MLB Advanced Media. The Phillies don't have a regional sports network or any related business so their total franchise value in this case came from the $928 million in team value (fifth in MLB) and the $110 million from MLB Advanced Media. The Phillies were the only team in the top-13 that did not have a regional sports network and/or related business.
This number is sure to go up whenever the Phillies reach their new television deal. Their $73 million in media rights ranked 18th out of 30 teams and the team has been in talks on a new deal after their current deal expires following the 2015 season.
