MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports the Phillies have outrighted reliever Michael Stutes off the 40-man roster which now stands at 39. He cleared waivers and will report to minor league camp. This comes just two days after the Phillies re-assigned him, and six others, to minor league camp.
Stutes, 27, was not sharp in Clearwater allowing seven earned runs on five hits and three walks in three innings this spring as his fastball topped out at 88 mph. Stutes broke out as a rookie with the Phillies in 2011 going 6-2 with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP in 57 games. He has struggled with shoulder issues over the last two seasons posting a 3-1 record with a 5.02 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP in 23.1 innings in 2012-13 combined.
He looks like a totally different pitcher from when he first came up and that's not a good thing.
