CSN Philly's Gregg Murphy reports the Phillies have placed Cliff Lee on the 15-day disabled list with a grade 1/2 left elbow strain. Lee stayed in Philadelphia to get an MRI on his ailing left elbow at the request of team physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti, who consequently leads MLB's Elbow Research Group.
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Matt Gelb reports it was diagnosed as a flexor pronator strain but Lee's discomfort after Sunday's start alarmed the doctors enough to have him get an MRI in Philadelphia tonight.
Lee, 35, is slated to make $25 million this year and $25 million next year. He is 4-4 in 10 starts this season with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP with one complete game. In parts of five seasons in Philadelphia, Lee is 48-33 with a 2.89 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP.
