Phillies team president David Montgomery met with Phillies fans for a large question-and-answer session. One of the topics raised was the job security of general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. to which Montgomery stated, "Ruben is not on the hot seat." (via Todd Zolecki).
Montgomery has publicly supported Amaro through all of the criticism over the last few seasons which surely has not been an easy task. Whether or not Amaro is actually on the hot seat remains to be seen but one can hope! Montgomery is in a tough position because all of his previous comments have been in support of Amaro so it would've been strange for him to say Amaro's job is in jeopardy in front of the organization's Baseball 101 Clinic and Luncheon for Women.
In short: he couldn't say anything else. I just hope that, privately, he does have Amaro on the hot seat because the state of the Phillies rests in his hands which got the Phillies into this mess.
