MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports the Phillies have recalled infielder/outfield Cesar Hernandez to replace the recently released Jayson Nix. Hernandez will report to the team immediately and is expected to be available for tonight's game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Hernandez, 23, was absolutely raking at Double-A Reading batting .340/.410/.485 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 26 games. Hernandez was spending most of his time working out at third base with the occasional appearance at second base and shortstop.
Hernandez also spent time last season playing centerfield for the Phillies as well. With the struggles of Ben Revere and the inconsistent play of Tony Gwynn Jr., it would not be a total surprise to see Hernandez spend a majority of his time split between third base and centerfield.
