The Phillies reportedly released pitcher Chad Gaudin from his minor league deal today after he did not pass his physical. He was signed to a minor league deal with an invitation to Major League spring training on January 21st.
Gaudin, who turns 31 in March, went 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in 30 games last season with San Francisco that included 12 starts. Prior to 2013, he had not started a Major League game since 2009 when he made 25 starts between the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees. Gaudin has a career 4.44 ERA and has spent most of his time coming out of the bullpen.
If the name rings a bell, it might be because of the strange incident he was involved in last January and later charged in July. Gaudin was allegedly intoxicated at a Las Vegas hospital when he we approached a woman on a gurney and touched her breasts according to the report. He refused to leave when an attendant asked him to leave and was later was charged with open and gross lewdness.
