In a move that surprised no one, the Phillies have opted to move starting pitcher Ethan Martin to the bullpen according to Chris Branch of The News Journal. Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said that Tyler Cloyd would take Martin's spot in the rotation.
It had been widely speculated that Martin would eventually be more suited for the bullpen than the starting rotation. In seven starts with the Phillies this season, Martin is 2-4 with a 6.90 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP. He has a live arm but struggles with his command as evident by his 21 walks in 30 innings of work.
