Marlins (3 Games)
Player to Watch: RF Giancarlo Stanton - Stanton is the Marlins only superstar and, at only 23 years old, he will be a force for years to come. He has been hobbled by injuries this year appearing in only 102 games. He is batting .253/.366/.491 with 22 home runs and 52 RBIs this season. In 20 career games against the Phillies, he is hitting .266/.321/.521 with 11 home runs and 22 RBIs.
Mets (3 Games)
Player to Watch: 3B David Wright - Wright enters the week on the 15-day disabled list dealing with a hamstring injury but has taken ground balls and could return to action as early as Tuesday. Wright is batting .309/.391/.512 with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs. In 152 career games against the Phillies, Wright has had a ton of success batting .286/.352/.519 with 30 home runs and 104 RBIs. Wright is even better at Citizens Bank Park as he is batting .297/.351/.546 with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs in 80 games.
Phillies (6 Games)
The Phillies were officially eliminated from playoff contention to the surprise of no one with the Cincinnati Reds victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Phillies enter the week one loss away from their second consecutive non-winning season and two loses away from their first losing season since 2002. The last time the Phillies had consecutive non-winning seasons was 1999-2000, the last two seasons under Terry Francona.
Phillies team president David Montgomery was asked if Amaro would be back as the team's general manager next season and he responded with a resounding "Oh, Ruben is our general manager." Montgomery cited Amaro's ability to make decisions and listen to those around him, a trait he learned from former general manager Pat Gillick, as some of his strong points. He attributes some of the criticism of moves, like not playing Darin Ruf and trading for Michael Young, as only holding merit with the benefit of hindsight.
