The Philadelphia Daily News' Ryan Lawrence reports Phillies ace Cole Hamels suffered a setback and is not certain exactly when he will throw again but it will not be until next week. This all comes after Hamels revealed last month he was behind schedule on his offseason throwing program.
Hamels said he feels fatigued but did not feel any pain when he was throwing. We already knew he would not be available for Opening Day but this is not a good revelation for a team that needs as many breaks as it can get to contend.
Hamels, 30, went 8-14 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 2013 for the Phillies. In eight years with the Phillies, Hamels is 99-74 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Hamels signed a six-year, $144 million deal with Philadelphia in July 2012.
