Philly.com's Marc Narducci is reporting that Pettibone's MRI has come back negative which is good news for the Phillies' starter. Pettibone has already thrown 122.2 innings between the Major Leagues and Minor Leagues this season so he might not return until next spring.
In 18 starts this season for the Phillies, he is 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. He was not originally part of the 25 man roster but injuries to Roy Halladay and John Lannan threw Pettibone into the mix.
It is great news that the MRI was negative but I don't see any sense in rushing Pettibone back this year. He just turned 23 in July which means there are plenty of innings left in his arm if he stays healthy. Put him on the shelf and look for a strong return in the spring.
