Halladay missed starts last season due to shoulder problems that required rest. He did not need offseason surgery which has many thinking that Halladay will be ready to go come opening day. He is looking to bounce back from a season in which he won just 11 games, his lowest since 2004, and had a 4.49 ERA, his highest since 2000. If the Phillies want to improve in 2013, they are going to need Halladay to bounce back.
This is the last season that Halladay is signed with the Phillies. He has a $20 million vesting option for 2014 if he pitches 225 innings in 2013. If Halladay doesn’t pitch 225 innings, he will become a free agent at season’s end. Prior to 2012, the last time that he did not pitch 225 innings was in 2006 when he threw 220 innings.
