This photo comes to us courtesy of Dan McQuade. Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is training in Clearwater with a 20-pound vest while taking ground balls during infield drills. I assume it is to help him with his range a bit which has dropped off a bit from his previous elite level as he is now 35 years old.
Whatever the case may be, I don't think working with this weighted vest will hurt him in any way so why not?
Rollins, 35, batted .252/.318/.348 with six home runs and 39 RBIs in 160 games last season for the Phillies. The six home runs and 39 RBIs were the fewest for the former-MVP in any full season. Yes, lower than the eight home runs and 41 RBIs he has in 88 games in 2010.
