The Philadelphia Inquirer's Bob Brookover reports that the Phillies will have Lehigh Valley second baseman Cesar Hernandez play the next 10 days in centerfield in Double-A Reading. The Phillies tried Hernandez in centerfield last week before Revere's injury but now will have him play exclusively in centerfield for the Fightins.
Hernandez, 23, was with the Phillies for nine games this year going 7-for-28 (.250) with a double, a RBI, and two runs scored while Chase Utley was injured. In 82 games in the minors this year, he is hitting .308/.376/.412 with two home runs and 29 RBI and 27 stolen bases. Last night, Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI, and an error. He has two errors in five games in centerfield this season.
I wouldn't have an issue with Hernandez platooning in centerfield if he is serviceable. He provides the Phillies with some versatility as he can also play the infield. Why not?
