RHP Worley (11-2, 2.85 ERA) got a no decision is his last start on Friday against the Cardinals. Worley gave up one run (on a bases loaded walk) over six innings. The Phillies went on to give up the lead on a Yadier Molina monster homerun in the eighth inning, tied it up with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, only to watch Michael Schwimer let the game get away in the top of the eleventh for a 4-2 loss.
LHP Lannan (9-13, 3.68 ERA) gave up three earned runs over six innings last Friday to earn the loss vs. the Marlins despite having a quality start.
Lannan probably wishes he was facing off against a different team tonight. Lannan is 1-12 in 16 career starts against the Phillies and boasting a ridiculous 5.81 ERA. The numbers are even worse at Citizens Bank Park. In six starts at Citizens Bank Park, Lannan is 0-5 with a 7.40 ERA. The Phillies have beaten Lannan four times in five starts this season and his ERA against the Phils in 2011 is hovering at 5.06.
The Phillies have begun to start resting some players while other players are on the mend. Hunter Pence missed his first game last night since being traded to the Phillies. Pence tweaked his knee running down to first base in yesterday’s afternoon game. He watched the night game as a precautionary measure. His injury does not seem too serious and his availability for tonight’s game is still in question. Ryan Howard, who has been dealing with bursitis in his left Achilles, is expected to sit tonight as well. Former National Brian Schneider is most likely going to start tonight against his former team because he always catches Vance Worley.
First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
