Eagles quarterback Nick Foles told ESPN the Magazine about the time his friend in high school collapsed on the field and his heart stopped beating. Foles told ESPN, "we were playing a huge game and had just finished a 15-play scoring drive when one of our offensive linemen, my buddy Matt, was lying on the ground, stiff. His heart had stopped. His parents were both doctors, and they came out of the stands and started CPR, but it didn't work. Finally, Justin Tucker's dad—before Justin was an NFL kicker, we were high school teammates—came down and used a defibrillator to save Matt's life."
How wild is that? Foles and Tucker were teammates at Austin Westlake High School in Texas when one of their teammates pretty much dies on the sidelines when Tucker's dad saves his life. That's a great story and makes me like Justin Tucker a little bit more just because his dad is a freaking hero to Matt and his family.
Another pretty famous alumnus of Austin Westlake, who graduated 10 years before Foles, is seven-time Pro Bowler, former NFL MVP, and current Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
The more you know.
