ESPN's Adam Schefter reported early Thursday morning the Redskins were making a push to trade for New Orleans Saints' running back Darren Sproles. Also Thursday morning, Sproles was traded to the Eagles for a fifth-round draft pick.
I like the Sproles acquisition but, after finding out the Redskins were vying for his services, I now love the move. Keeping him away from Robert Griffin III and the Redskins is just a smart move on Howie Roseman's part.
Sproles, who turns 31 in June, is one of the most dynamic receiving running backs in the NFL. He had rushed for only 220 yards last season in New Orleans but caught 71 passes for 604 yards and two touchdowns. He has put up 497 or more receiving yards in each of the last five seasons topping 600 yards in each of the last three. In the last three seasons, Sproles has caught seven touchdown passes twice.
